PEARL RIVER – Orange and Rockland Utilities is planning to invest over $18 million to build a new electric substation near the intersection of Orchard Lane and Route 209 in the Town of Deerpark.
When completed, the substation will produce estimated annual local tax revenue at 2015 rates of $745,230, $550,540 being in school taxes.
The utility would like to have the project built on just under eight
acres of land it owns completed in November 2017.
The facility will directly benefit 6,500 customers and is needed to meet the increasing requirements of Deerpark and the surrounding area and will provide additional increased service reliability to Port Jervis and O&R’s electric customers in Pike County, Pennsylvania, company officials said.
The mobile substation that has been temporarily supplementing the local electric supply with power from the overhead transmission lines on that property will be removed, once the new one is built.
