STONE RIDGE – Dr. Donald Katt concluded his 47-year career at SUNY Ulster on Thursday, paving the way for Dr. Alan Roberts to take over the presidency of the two-year college in Stone Ridge on Monday.
Katt, who turns 70 this fall, joined the college in 1968 in student personnel services and in 1975 was tapped to head the school’s development and advancement programs. He served as the chief academic officer from 1989 to 2000.
During his tenure as president, Katt advanced the college’s online education, initiated the Police Basic Training and Veterinary Technology programs and expanded the Visual and Performing Arts programs. He also created the Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and international Education programs.
Through Katt’s efforts, SUNY Ulster was one of the first SUNY campuses to receive approval under the state’s Start-Up New York program for economic development. Three new companies have been approved for the program and the college expects five more by September.
