POUGHKEEPSIE – A woman, who was at Club Ciboney at 189 Church Street in Poughkeepsie, was struck in the leg by a ricocheted bullet and city police are investigating the incident.
This shooting occurred around 3:20 in the morning on Saturday, July 18, days before a man was shot to death in the city on this Tuesday.
Police Chief Ronald Knapp said both incidents remain under investigation but happened in different areas of the city.
“Normally what we would do if we saw the violence in a pattern or in a certain area, then obviously we can counter that with extra patrols, but when something happens in a bar or out of a normal area where we have had incidents of violence in the past, it just makes it more difficult for that to counter it with a patrol type of response,” Knapp said.
Police were called to the Ciboney Club for a report of a fight outside and another report of a shot fired inside.  When officers arrived, there were several fights in the parking lot. Club security also said there was a shot fired inside the club. Police encountered several uncooperative witnesses at the scene and no victim was located.
There was an apparent birthday party going at the club.
A short time later, police were called to a local hospital for a reported gunshot victim. The 24-year-old woman was dancing inside the club when she was struck in the leg by the ricocheted bullet.
No arrests have been made, but the investigation is continuing with police asking for the public’s assistance by calling 845-451-4000 or the tip line at 845-451-7577.
