Police in Port Jervis end stand-off peacefully

PORT JERVIS – A man, who allegedly choked a woman in the presence of two children, was arrested after a several hour standoff.
Port Jervis Police were called to 178 Front Street at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday and after several attempts to make contact with the suspect, identified as Donald Beach, 28, he allowed the female victim and children to leave the residence.
City police, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group and their Crisis Intervention Team, assisted at the scene and after holding police at bay for several hours and successful telephone negotiations, Beach voluntarily came out of the residence and surrendered without incident.
Beach was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful imprisonment, both felonies, and misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal obstruction of breathing and menacing.
