Man struck and killed while walking on Rt. 17K in Town of Newburgh

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A Town of Newburgh
man is dead following a car-pedestrian accident late Wednesday night.
Just before 10 p.m., Newburgh Town Police responded to a report of an
accident on Route 17K near the entrance to the Stewart Air National Guard
Base.
The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian, whose name police did not immediately release, was walking in the westbound lane of Route 17K and was struck by a westbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Police Chief Michael Clancy.
Town Police were assisted at the scene by State Police, the Orange County
Medical Examiner’s Office, Town of Newburgh EMS and the Winona Lake
Fire Department.
The road was closed for 2 ½ hours for the investigation, which continues.
