GOSHEN – A Middletown man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Thursday to 2-1/3 to seven years in state prison on his guilty plea to vehicular manslaughter.
Andre Laquan Davis, 23, previously admitted that on November 4, 2014, he was driving eastbound on Route 17M in the Town of Goshen after having consumed vodka and marijuana.  He admitted that he drove his car off the road and into a number of objects displayed outside a Goshen business that sold outdoor furniture and landscaping supplies including a large wooden promotional Adirondack chair. A 30-year-old man who was a passenger in Davis’ car died as a result of the collision.
Analysis of a blood sample taken from Davis revealed his blood-alcohol content was .15 percent, almost twice the .08 percent legal limit to drive, and that marijuana was present in his blood.
District Attorney David Hoovler said the victim lost his life because Davis “decided that driving while intoxicated was more important that the safety of his passenger and others on the road.”
