TOWN OF WALLKILL – The $68 million reconstruction of Route 17, soon to be Interstate 86 in the Town of Wallkill is expected to be completed by mid-October.

The work causes backups at times, but when done, should make for a smoother access
to the ‘medical mile’ and Galleria Mall

The work, which includes a complete redesign of exit 122 and East Main
Street as it connects with Crystal Run Road, also involved widening and
improved access to and from the highway.
The entrance and exit ramps to the highway have been redesigned to provide
more ramp length; there was little to no roll-out access from East Main
Street to the eastbound highway.
The state Department of Transportation is paying the bill for the massive project.
At the same time, work is continuing on construction of a road under Route 17 that will connect the Orange Plaza mall and Galleria at Crystal Run, which is also expected to be finished this fall. That, too, is being paid for by the state.
