Columbia County scores lowest unemployment in state

ALBANY – Counties in the Hudson Valley/Catskills
region continued to see unemployment levels decline in May.

Columbia County, with a rate of 3.9 percent, had the lowest unemployment
in the state.

Putnam County, with a rate of 4.3 percent, was ranked fourth in the state.

Rockland and Westchester counties, each with 4.6 percent, were tied for
eighth place with Dutchess County 12th with 4.7 percent unemployment.

Orange and Ulster counties, each with 4.8 percent joblessness, were each
ranked 17th in the state.

Sullivan County, with 5.6 percent unemployment, was ranked 38th and Greene
County, with 5.7 percent joblessness, was ranked 39th.

The May unemployment rate for the Hudson Valley region is 4.7 percent.
That is up from 4.5 percent in April but down from 5.2 percent in May
2014.

In May, there were 52,200 unemployed in the region, up from 50,000 in
April but down from 57,400 in May 2014.
