POUGHKEEPSIE – The SUNY Dutchess tuition increase of $240 contained within the proposed college 2015-2016 budget is of concern to the Republican majority of the county legislature. A letter from Majority Leader Angela Flesland prompted a meeting Wednesday between leadership and college officials.
Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison is a member of the college board of trustees and he said after the meeting they are looking at ways to reduce the size of a tuition increase.
“We want to be helpful on the county end with the county contribution to offset the tuition hike,” Rolison said. “It’s still a fluid situation but I am optimistic we will be able to bring the proposed tuition hike down to a lower amount.”
College President Dr. Pamela Edington’s proposed spending plan would increase the county’s $10.8 million contribution by $1 million next year.
