BUCHANAN – Indian Point’s Unit 3 nuclear power plant automatically shut down Monday evening around 7:20 p.m. following an electrical disturbance external to the plant. The unit’s main electrical generator shut down as a protective measure following the disturbance.
The cause of that electrical issue was not immediately known.
All equipment operated as expected during the shutdown, Entergy officials said. There was no release of radioactivity and no threat to the safety of workers or the public.
Unit 2 continues to operate at full power.
