ALBANY – The State Senate passed legislation sponsored by Senator David Carlucci (D, New City) that would put stricter residency requirements on sex offenders.
The measure would prohibit sex offenders from moving to a residence that is within 1,000 feet of any school building regularly used for instructional purposes and a building in which child day care is provided.
Carlucci introduced the legislation after it was brought to his attention that a level three sex offender was legally living some 175 feet from Nella Di Nuovo Daycare in New City.
The bill was sent to the Assembly for action. The legislature adjourns for the year next Wednesday.
