KINGSTON – Police arrested a Kingston man and a female inmate at the Ulster County Jail following a narcotics investigation.
Corrections officers had previously intercepted correspondence mailed to an inmate at the jail which contained Suboxone. Further investigation indicated an accomplice was to go to Ulster County Family Court on June 11 and hide narcotics in a bathroom. The inmate was to be in court the same day and intended to retrieve the drugs.
On June 11, members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team arrested Ronald Galewaler, 45, of Kingston as he waited to enter family court and was found in possession of 10 Oxycodone pills. He was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, promoting prison contraband, attempted promoting prison contraband and conspiracy, all felonies, as well as the misdemeanor of criminal facilitation and a violation of possessing a prescription medication outside its original container. He was sent to the jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Alicia Griffin, 26, of Esopus, an inmate at the jail, was charged with felonies of attempted promoting prison contraband and conspiracy and the misdemeanor of criminal solicitation. She is due in Kingston City Court at a later date.
The investigation is continuing and police said additional arrests are possible.
