ALBNY – The State Senate bills that
would provide annexation oversight have begun moving in the upper house.

Senator William Larkin (R, Cornwall-on-Hudson), who is sponsoring the
measures, said they “will create appropriate oversight on annexations
as well as support a more comprehensive review process when resolving
disputes. Annexations that have the potential to significantly impact
an entire region should be looked at very closely.”

Larkin hopes to have the full Senate approve the pair of bills before
it adjourns next week.

The State Assembly has already approved the measures sponsored in that
house by Assemblyman James Skoufis (D, Woodbury).

The bills were prompted by the proposed annexation of 507 acres of land
in the Town of Monroe into the Village of Kiryas Joel.
