NEW PALTZ – Commercial businesses wanting to set up shop in the Town of New Paltz will now have to go green.
The town adopted a local law requiring that they install electric charging stations, said Town Supervisor Susan Zimet.
“When somebody goes before the planning board, one of the things they have to look at is actually creating electric vehicle charging stations in their site plan and they have the option not to do it if they can prove reasons why they shouldn’t, but basically we are asking through our planning process to start planning to allow for electrical vehicle charging stations into their site plan, which has never been done before,” Zimet said.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority awarded the town $2,500 toward its new process, which Zimet said is the first of its kind in Ulster County.
