Police advise of phony overdue water bill calls

WALDEN – Police in the Village of Walden are warning residents of a scam where they are being called from someone purporting to be from the Department of Public Works and claiming the person’s water bill is overdue. The caller demands money immediately via credit card or money order.
Residents are warned not to send any money. If they feel there may be an actual problem with their water bill, police said they should call the village office during regular business hours at 845-778-2177.
Police said it is believed other communities are receiving the same types of calls and should beware.
