GOSHEN – Orange County Government is
under a state consent decree to perform environmental remediation improvements
to the Cheechunk Canal of the Wallkill River in Goshen.
County lawmakers appropriated $400,000 to cover the cost of the mandated repairs.
“There is a leachate issue from the old landfill and this is going to try to mitigate that. It might be just a temporary fix but it is something we have to do,” said legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia.
The cost of the work will be paid for through the issuance of bonds.
