DEC doles out smart growth grants to Catskill communities

ALBANY – The state Department of Environmental Conservation awarded $400,000 in Catskill Smart Growth Implementation grants to support communities to capitalize on their natural setting to improve livability and foster economic vitality.

The Town of Lexington in Greene County will receive $64,425 for the Lexington Waterfront Park project.
The Catskill Watershed Corporation will receive $50,000 for the Catskill Park Wayfinding Sign project.
Windham Area Recreation Foundation and the Town of Windham in Greene County will receive $50,000 for the Windham Path Phase III – Hensonville Center to Maplecrest Center.
The Town of Hunter in Greene County will receive $26,131 for the Mountain Cloves Scenic Byway Gateway Signage project.
The Town of Cairo in Greene County will receive $75,000 for the Cairo Main Street Multi-Modal Pathway project.
The Village of Fleischmanns in Delaware County will receive $45,482 for the Gateway Enhancement project.
The Town of Andes in Delaware County will receive $45,481 in the Ballantine Park Improvements project.
The Town of Neversink in Sullivan County will receive $45,481 for the Town Park project.

“Whether it’s investing in resiliency projects, building paths to connect businesses and residents, or enhancing recreation areas, these grants will protect our public health and natural environment and make the Catskills region more attractive, economically stronger and more socially diverse,” said state Secretary of State Cesar Perales.
