GOSHEN – Two New York City men were sentenced in Orange County Court on Monday in connection with the shooting of an inmate who had just been released from the state Otisville Correctional Facility.
Jerome Mack, 36, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Edgar Wilson, 36, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Both were convicted after a jury trial in connection with the October 9, 2014 shooting near the Otisville train station.
Mack was convicted of attempted murder, assault, conspiracy and other offenses while Wilson was convicted of assault, conspiracy and other crimes.
The victim has just been released from prison after serving 15 ½ years for assault. Wilson, who was unknown to the victim, picked him up under the pretense that friends were waiting for him nearby. After Wilson drove a short distance away, he pulled over and both Wilson and the victim got out. The victim then saw Mack, an old enemy, standing by the open trunk of the car.
As the victim began to run, Mack fired a gun, hitting him in the back and arm. The victim ran to the nearby Otisville train station where a bystander called 911 and the victim was flown to Westchester Medical Center.
Both Mack and Wilson were arrested in New York City. Wilson had the victim’s property on him and Mack was found near other personal property belonging to the victim.
