Kingston City officer shoots burglary suspect

KINGTON – An 18-year-old Kingston
man is recuperating at Albany Medical Center after being shot by a Kingston
City police officer early Friday morning.

State Police are investigating the incident that occurred shortly after
midnight on Friday, May 29.

A city officer responded to a burglar alarm at the Chase Bank branch in
the Kingston Plaza and a man was seen fleeing the rear of the building.
The man, later identified as Alex Jeffries of Kingston, pulled a weapon
and the officer fired one round striking him in the abdomen. Jeffries
was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for what is not
expected to be a life threatening wound.

Kingston Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office
asked the State Police to investigate.

Anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has information is asked
to call the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-338-1777.
