ALBANY – The state Department of Environmental Conservation’s reversal of its decision not to require an environmental impact statement for the proposed expansion of Global Companies’ rail-to-barge transfer terminal in Albany is being hailed as an environmental victory by the Riverkeeper organization.
Global Companies operates a large fuel depot in New Windsor as well.
Riverkeeper Paul Gallay said the state’s reservsal of its decision
pertaining to an environmental review of the Albany plan is a proper one.
“We call on the Cuomo administration to treat this stunning turnaround in the Global Oil case as a true and lasting turning point so that health, safety and environmental risk get rightful consideration relative to the desire to get petroleum out of the ground here in the Americas,” Gallay said.
A lawsuit filed by Riverkeeper and other groups in June 2014 challenged the DEC’s decision not to require an environmental impact statement.
