POUGHKEEPSIE – The housing of Dutchess County Jail inmates at other county jails is ending as the county is transitioning them to the new temporary “pods” installed on the campus of the Poughkeepsie facility.
County Executive Marcus Molinaro said the move is slow, but when completed will be beneficial for the inmates and the county taxpayers.
“With that we not only enhance the logistics of the criminal justice system, we think providing greater efficiency, but also provide for $1 million in taxpayer savings,” Molinaro said.
That’s $1 million annually.
The mobile housing units are only temporary.  The state is requiring the county to construct a permanent addition to the jail in the next couple of years.
