GOSHEN – The New York State Department of Labor has presented an
“Award of Merit” to the Orange County District Attorney’s
Office for its “Dedication, Commitment and Success in Prosecuting
Unemployment Insurance Fraud.”
In 2014, the county returned $100,814 in restitution on cases referred by the Office of Special Investigations for Unemployment Insurance Fraud. Those recoveries were returned to the State Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.  The money was recovered from perpetrators of unemployment insurance fraud.
Orange County was one of 2014’s top 10 district attorney’s offices for returning those funds to the state.
The state Labor Department also recognized Orange County Assistant Das Leah Canton and Julie Mohl for their success in personally handling unemployment insurance fraud cases.
“My office is dedicated to combating frauds that effect taxpayers’ wallets, such as unemployment insurance fraud,” said DA David Hoovler.
