Two arrested following drug transaction in Ellenville

NAPANOCH – Members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team arrested two men in Ellenville following a drug transaction.
At around 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, officers were conducting surveillance at the Ellenville Recreational Fields in Ellenville when they observed the men engaged in a drug deal.
Officers attempted to stop one man, Brett Smith, 19, of Wurtsboro, but he sped away in his vehicle, nearly striking an officer. Smith was located a shortly thereafter at a nearby residence and arrested on charges of felony tampering with physical evidence and misdemeanors of obstructing governmental administration and reckless driving, as well as vehicle and traffic violations.
The other man, Connor McCarthy, 19, of Napanoch, was topped by police nearby and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.
Both men were released on appearance tickets returnable to Ellenville Village Court.
