WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Kisco woman, who was a branch manager at
the M&T Bank in Ossining, was sentenced Wednesday to 2 1/3 to seven
years in state prison for stealing $1.4 million from depositors.

Maria Rodriguez, 47, pled guilty in February to two counts of grand larceny
and one count of criminal tax fraud, all felonies.

She was charged with systematically stealing from two bank customers beginning
in June 2008. In one case, she stole money from the victim by writing
unauthorized checks to cash and making unauthorized ATM withdrawals with
the total theft of over $1.1 million.

The second victim was a 92-year-old former Ossining village police officer,
from whom she stole over $192,000 by making unauthorized withdrawals from
his account.

The thefts came to light when several of Rodriguez’s employees at
the bank called M&T Bank’s whistleblower hotline to report suspicious
activity. The bank initiated an investigation and turned it over to Ossining
Police and the Westchester District Attorney’s Office.
