KINGSTON – This is cat season pushing the population of the Ulster County SPCA in Kingston to well over 100.
The spring usually pushes the cat and kitten population to over 120, but SPCA Executive Director Adam Saunders said they do what they can to keep that from expanded.
“When they come in they are all separated into cages until they have had that surgery or in the case of litters of kittens if they are too young to reproduce then they can be housed together,” he said. “They are spayed or neutered as soon as it is medically feasible and then they are placed up for adoption. Kittens tend to get adopted fairly quickly.”
Saunders said the cat and kitten population can swell to 180 until the fall when the fall rolls around, they drop back down to about 120.
