Woman and her dog rescued from ravine

SAUGERTIES – Firefighters from the Centerville/Cedar Grove Fire Department and Saugerties Police rescued an Elka Park woman and her dog after she became stuck in a small ravine in Platte Cove Mountain on Thursday afternoon.
Police said Marcia Johnson, 58, has been walking her dog on a trail at the base of Platte Cove Mountain when the pooch accidentally slipped 20 feet down an embankment into a small ravine.   After Johnson climbed down into the ravine in an attempt to retrieve the dog, she became stuck on the ledge.
Firefighter rescuers rappelled down to the ledge and rescued Johnson and her dog, neither of which was injured.
Diaz Ambulance personnel also assisted with the rescue.
