NEW WINDSOR – The Orange County Business
Incubator is changing its focus from providing office space to startup
businesses to so-called “maker space” for existing small businesses
developing a product.
The first cluster will emphasize the “cut and sew” apparel manufacturing industry, said County Industrial Development Agency Associate Executive Director Laurie Villasuso.
“What we want to do is capture that sector and give them a place where they can come and develop products, designs and garments here in the accelerator and hopefully sell those to companies, or designers or come up with their own design house, sort of a way to make something in the accelerator,” Villasuso said. “Down the road there will be other maker spaces that we would have. We have talked about commercial kitchens and bottling and artisan manufacturing.”
The IDA has also named Galileo Technology Group, headed by Vincent Cozzolino, to replace the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation as the manager of the facility.
