HUDSON – The Columbia County Health
Department is going to receive over $705,700 in state funds over a five
year period to help residents to be healthier in their homes.

The funds will be used to implement a Healthy Neighborhoods program in
the City of Hudson and two villages, Valatie in the Town of Kinderhook
and Philmont in the Town of Claverack.

“We will be looking at the reduction of hazards that led to indoor
air pollution. In many cases indoor air pollution can lead to respiratory
problems like asthma,” said County Public Health Director Angella
Timothy. Asthma sufferers will be one of the target populations o the
program, which will assess risks including lead paint, fire hazards and
fall hazards.

Activities are expected to begin by the fall.
