POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County lawmakers are reviewing a proposal that would require apprenticeships on bridge construction projects of $500,000 or more.
The idea has the backing of labor organizations and is identical to a law adopted by the Ulster County Legislature earlier this year, said Dutchess Legislator and resolution sponsor Joel Tyner.
“To me it’s just common sense, it’s not controversial,” he said, referring to Ulster’s approval.  “It is something that passed unanimously two or three months ago so I am hoping we can make it happen this side of the river.”
Tyner has sent his proposal to the county administration for its input.
