WAWARSING – Three members of a Brooklyn
church, who were among seven in a van returning from a religious retreat
at the Honors Haven Resort in the Town of Wawarsing Sunday morning, were
killed when a tractor-trailer truck slammed into their vehicle. Police
did not immediately release the names of the victims.

The 10:30 a.m. Sunday crash at the intersection of Route 209 and Nevele
Drive also resulted in injuries to the van driver and another passenger,
who had to be airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. The remaining two
passengers of the van along with the driver of the truck were transported
by ambulance to Ellenville Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

State Police at the Ellenville barracks said the accident occurred as
the van attempted to enter Route 209 from Nevele Drive and was struck
in the passenger side by the truck, which was traveling on Route 209.

The State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit and Commercial
Vehicle Enforcement Unit are investigating.
