POUGHKEEPSIE – The Special Olympics New York Winter Games are going
to be held in the Hudson Valley. The event, from February 19 to 21, 2016,
will be the first time the annual statewide games will be held in Dutchess
and Orange counties.

More than 1,000 athletes and coaches will come to the region to compete
in a number of winter sports at locations in Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan
counties.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro will serve as the honorary chairman
of the event. The county is “proud to welcome athletes, families
and supporters of the Special Olympics New York Winter Games,” he
said. “Special Olympic athletics remind us that challenges and obstacles
can be overcome and inspire us all to think differently.”

The events and their venues include alpine skiing at Holiday Mountain
Ski Area in Monticello; figure and speed skating at McCann Ice Arena in
Poughkeepsie; floor hockey in Orange County; and Nordic skiing and snowshoeing
at Bowdoin Park in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
