Historic, cultural groups win Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area awards

ALBANY – The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area has awarded over $30,000 to organizations in support of a number of educational and interpretive programs.  The funding will be used to showcase the area’s history and contribution to the region’s heritage tourism economy, said Mark Castiglione, acting director of the National Heritage Area.
“These grant awards range from a geocaching tour at the Wallkill River School to signage at the Lyndhurst Estate, that will connect people traveling on the old Croton Aqueducts to the property at Lyndhurst then onward to the riverwalk train,” Castiglione said.
Other projects receiving grants:

The City of Beacon will receive $8,500 for a “Heritage Site Mapping and Signage Project.”
The Wallkill River School will receive $8,500 for an art/history trail.
The National Maritime Historical Society will receive $5,000 for a revision of a handbook.
Friends of John Jay Homestead will receive $4,000 for expansion of the Red Barn Discovery Center.
Mount Gulian Historic Site will receive $2,414 for “James F. Brown Day: A Celebration of Freedom.”
The Palisades Park Conservancy, Inc. will receive $2,226 for installation of interpretive materials for the Tower of Victory at Washington’s Headquarters.
Lyndhurst will receive $1,250 to design and install interpretive signage.
