WAPPINGER – A Wappinger man faces charges in connection with the theft of another man’s identification, which he used during several traffic stops because his own driver’s license was suspended.
Yuhanna McCallum, 25, was charged with felony falsifying business records and misdemeanors of criminal impersonation, possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operation.
The case came to light when a Poughkeepsie man reported to State Police that he received a letter from Town of Fishkill Court advising him that his driving privileges were going to be suspended if he did not pay a fine for outstanding traffic tickets issued in July of last year.
The victim told police he never got the tickets in question, but did lose his old learner’s permit in 2014. He told police someone had presented his old permit in Wappinger during a traffic stop where tickets were also issued and during an accident investigation in the Town of East Fishkill.
McCallum was picked up by police at the intersection of Route 9 and Myers Corners Road in Wappinger while driving a vehicle believed to be linked to the criminal investigation.   While being interviewed, police found the victim’s stolen driver’s license.
McCallum was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
