MID-HUDSON – The Town of East Fishkill
is the 21st safest community in the nation while the Town of Carmel ranked
22nd, both according to an analysis of 2013 FBI data conducted by ADT
Security company.
East Fishkill had a safety score of 91.7 with nine violent crimes and only 18 burglaries. “The presence of IBM’s Hudson Valley Research Park adds a touch of high-tech to a community filled with historic sites,” the company noted.
Town Supervisor John Hickman was thrilled with the ranking.
“I think it is a testimony to the residents of the Town of East Fishkill and our police,” Hickman said.
The town is 53 square miles, but one resident said it has a small town appeal. “We all feel very safe here,” that resident said.
Carmel, with a safety score of 91.4, had 10 violent crimes with 31 burglaries.
ADT said Carmel is noted for its outstanding schools, where students have a long history of achievement in academics, athletics and music.
“In fact, young people have been making history there since 16-year-old Sybil Ludington earned the nickname ‘The Female Paul Revere’ in 1777,” noted ADT
Glen Cove, New York, on Long Island, was rated the safety community in the nation with a safety score of 96.6 with three violent crimes and only five burglaries.
Zionville, Indiana was ranked second safest; Ridgefield, CT was third; Lake in the Hills, Illinois came in fourth; and Brookings, South Dakota was ranged fifth.
