WHITE PLAINS – A proposal to create
a Westchester County energy director’s position has been approved
in the Energy and Environment Committee and now goes to the full Board
of Legislators for a vote next month.
Committee Chairwoman Catherine Parker, who proposed the legislation, said creation of that position will result in cost savings and environmental benefits.
“They are going to be responsible for looking for our infrastructure needs, basically looking at our capital programs and seeing where there are opportunities to incorporate some real energy efficiency which will save us on our fuel consumption and save us dollars,” Parker said. “They are also going to be looking for opportunities for grants.”
That position could have the potential of saving the county millions of dollars in energy use, Parker said.
The legislation follows similar models of energy director positions in Yonkers, New York City and Philadelphia.
