POUGHKEEPSIE – There was nothing but praise for Dutchess County’s new acting commissioner of Community and Family Services and Commissioner of Planning and Development.
Sabrina Marzouka and Eoin Wrafter respectively were confirmed for the two positions.
Democrat Legislator Gwen Johnson said Marzouka is a perfect fit for Family Services.
“And I was very impressed with her,” Johnson said, about her interview.  “I do a lot of work, I get a lot of complaints about social services and I deal with a lot of the clients through my constituents, and I have to honestly say that she will bring compassion and a new approach to the Department of Social Services, to the less fortunate,” Johnson said.
Republican Legislator Gregg Pulver has high expectations for Wrafter in Planning and Development.
“He brings a knowledge; he brings a quick learning ability,” Pulver said.
In other business during a brief monthly meeting, legislators approved four bonding resolutions:

$5.47 million for bridge, culvert and highway improvements
$4.2 million for reconstruction of Crum Elbow Road in the Town of Hyde Park
$734 thousand for the purchase of equipment and vehicles for Public Works
$749 thousand for the purchase of vehicles for other departments

The legislature also approved a home rule request asking the state legislature to extend the sales tax rate increase of 3 percent to 3.75 percent.  That came over the objection of Democrat Joel Tyner, who called it “unfair, regressive” for Dutchess County residents.
