PORT JERVIS – While Port Jervis city officials continue to seek resources to build a whitewater park on the Delaware River, they are awaiting the results of the permitting process with the state and federal Fish and Wildlife Division. Mayor Kelly Decker said they could hear back on both of those this summer.
In the meantime, putting the finances together is a challenge, the mayor said.
“The whitewater park committee will be working to figure out how to raise $4 million. To build the park is about $2 million,” Decker said.
The remainder would be for amenities around the park, including vehicle parking, building a pavilion, volleyball and tennis courts, walking paths and other activities.
Officials see the whitewater park being a major tourist attraction for both sides of the Delaware, in New York and Pennsylvania.
