WASHINGTON – Federal funding channeled
through the state for grants and loans is available to municipalities
for water and sewer upgrades.
The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation will receive over $150 million in federal funds for sewer repair projects each year and US Senator Charles Schumer would like the EFC to make over $46 million of that funding, the maximum allowed under the new federal law, available to communities in the form of grants.
He pointed to the Village of Maybrook as one community that could use the additional financial support.
“They have applied for $6 million to completely overhaul the sewage treatment plant in order to improve water quality in the Otterkill River,” Schumer said. “That’s a lot of money for a small village, so grant money would be critical to them.”
In the Hudson Valley, there are 65 sewer projects awaiting federal funding this year.
