Putnam scores lowest unemployment rate in region

ALBANY – Putnam County had the lowest
unemployment rate in the Mid-Hudson Valley in January at 5.0 percent and
the second lowest in the state. Only Tompkins County had a lower rate
at 4.8 percent.

Sullivan County continued to have the highest rate of joblessness in the
region, but it fell by 1.3 percent from one year ago figures in January
2014.

The January 2015 unemployment rate for the Hudson Valley region was 5.5
percent. That is up from 4.6 percent in December 2014 and down from 6.2
percent in January 2014. In January 2015, there were 60,000 unemployed
in the region, up from 50,200 in December 2014 and down from 68,300 in
January 2014.
