KINGSON – Ulster County Government is looking into adopting a green fleet policy.
Lawmakers recently approved converting four sheriff’s office vehicles
to propane, but County Executive Michael Hein vetoed that, saying there
are better ways of developing an environmentally sound fleet of vehicles.
Now, legislators are looking at a complete policy with several components, said Legislature Majority Leader Kenneth Ronk.
“It lists as a green vehicle any type of vehicle listed on the US Department of Energy’s alternative fuels section, which is hybrid, electric, and LPG and CNG and other things, and then it would be up to the fleet manager and the executive’s office and purchasing and procurement to decide what options work best for the county,” Ronk said.
The legislature will conduct a public hearing on the proposal on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
