NEWBURGH – Newburgh Landing on the Hudson River, which was built for the Bicentennial Barge in 1976, has been destroyed by stormy weather in recent years and the City of Newburgh wants to rebuild it.
It will cost millions to reconstruct the pier from the riverbed up since the underpinnings have been destroyed.

Mayor Judy Kennedy said the project would benefit the economic development future for the city and region and would go beyond the current size.
“To extend it further out to deeper water for bigger ships, tall ships, and we can actually have more commercial use and be even better for fishing,” the mayor said.
Kennedy said the city will seek grants to rebuild the dock. A consultant’s projection last year to rebuild the Newburgh Landing just for pedestrians was $1.1 million. The mayor said the city would like to reconstruct it for marine traffic as well.
