YONKERS – The Westchester County SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Division has arrested a Yonkers woman on four counts of animal cruelty after it was discovered that four pit bull mix dogs in her care were deprived over a period of time of food, water and medical attention.
At the time of her arrest, Latia Stewart, 23, had an appearance in court for a prior arrest by Yonkers Police on charges of child endangerment. She is being held on $25,000 bail in the Westchester County Jail.
When authorities found the dogs, they were in poor condition with signs of neglect including broken teeth and skin ailments. They were also underweight and dehydrated, said Humane Law Enforcement Director Ernest Lungaro.
Stewart was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, which is punishable for up to one year in jail on each count.
