Juvenile charged with burglary

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office charged a 14-year-old boy with burglary after an investigation into a break-in at the Tyberg Supermarket on Stanton Corners Road in Swan Lake.
On Sunday, February 22, deputies responded to a burglar alarm and found a rear window had been broken out and saw footprints in the snow leading away from the store. They followed them into nearby woods until they lost track.
Deputies developed leads, though, from video surveillance in the area and on Wednesday, March 4, an off-duty sheriff’s detective spotted a suspect fitting the description near Route 55 and Briscoe Road. The detective was able to identify the suspect, who turned out to be the 14-year-old,
The child surrendered to the sheriff’s office, accompanied by his father, on Friday, March 6. He was charged as a juvenile with burglary and released on a family court appearance ticket.
