PUTNAM VALLEY – An Oakland Park, Florida man faces a charge of illegal gun possession following a car crash on the Taconic State Parkway near Route 301 in Putnam Valley.
Two good Samaritans and a State Trooper pulled the John Reno, 53, out of his burning car that was found in a wooded area off the road on February 25. Reno suffered severe burns to his lower extremities. He was transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center.
Following an investigation, police found Reno possessed a loaded handgun for which he was not licensed in New York or Florida, his home state, due to his being a convicted felon.
Following medical treatment, Reno was sent to the Putnam County Jail without bail.
