Motorist killed in wrong-way driver crash on Sprain Brook was NYPD cop

GREENBURGH – A driver, who was traveling
in the wrong direction on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the Town of Greenburgh
early Friday morning, slammed head on into a vehicle traveling in the
right direction, killing that motorist, was a member of the New York City
Police Department.

State Police said the crash occurred just before 4 a.m. Friday when a
2013 Honda Civic driven by Efren Moreano, 20, of Yonkers was traveling
northbound in the southbound lane. As a result, the Civic struck a 2011
Honda Pilot, driven by Paul Duncan, 46, of Hartsdale, head-on.

Duncan was a member of the New York City Police Department who was off
duty at the time of the crash. He was a detective first grade assigned
to the Internal Affairs Bureau.
Moreano was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he is listed
in stable condition. Duncan was killed as a result of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
