Engine Company No. 1, one of the city’s three firehouses

BEACON – A consultant’s study recommended that the City of Beacon shut down its three firehouses and build a new one at a cost of $7.5 million.
Mayor Randy Casale is leaning in favor of that option.  The city council is not sold on the idea and is considering combinations of consolidation and possible new construction.
Casale is willing to see how the cost options measure up.
“I can understand and when I was a councilman I wanted to put two into one right away to start and then see what the future would bring about three into one, so I am not opposed to that, but I do not think keeping all three is an option that I would want to do,” Casale said. “But my preference, if we could afford it, would be to build one new one and get rid of all three.”
The city council will have the final say.
