Area villages face financial stress

ALBANY – One of three villages in the state that faces significant stress, according to the state comptroller’s office is Tuckahoe. The Westchester County municipality had a fiscal stress score for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2014 of 69.2 percent. Only Amityville ranked with higher stress and Port Dickinson was third statewide.
Tannersville in Greene County and Ardsley in Westchester County were listed as having moderate stress.
Six villages in the region were listed by the comptroller’s office
as being susceptible to fiscal stress. Top on the list of susceptible
villages statewide was Washingtonville in Orange County. Walden, also
in Orange, made the lost along with Pomona and New Square in Rockland
County, Catskill and Hunter in Greene County and Red Hook in Dutchess
County.
“Although the numbers of fiscally distressed villages is small, these communities still grapple with the same financial pressures as our larger municipalities,” said Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. “By continuing to focus on sensible budgeting and long-term planning, local village officials can avoid fiscal jeopardy.”
