Schumer:  “… entice new visitors”

TOWN OF WALLKILL – US Senator Charles Schumer told Orange County business people that the new casino opening in Sullivan County is due to bring in 2.2 million additional visitors to the region in its first year. He made the announcement Thursday in the Town of Wallkill at an Orange County Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon.
Schumer said in light of this new information, along with Orange County
tourism being responsible for approximately $460 million and 90,000 jobs,
he will be holding an Orange County tourism conference.
“In the coming weeks my office is going to be working with Hudson Valley Tourism and HVEDC to convene the summit to discuss how we can entice the new visitors,” the senator said
Schumer said he will invite “key federal agencies” and the private sector to the event to begin now, not wait two years.
The casino-resort, at the site of the old Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake is expected to be up and running in a little more than two years.
During his address, the senator also discussed ideas for funding for infrastructure improvement, improving traffic flow through the bottleneck on Route 32 near Woodbury Common and his ideas for dealing with ISIS overseas.
