NEWBURGH – A former chief of police in the City of Middletown Police Department has been appointed director of security and safety at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
Matthew Byrne, who served as city chief for years until his retirement in 2009, later went on to become deputy chief for the last seven years with the Town of Mount Hope Police Department.
“His police career spans 24 years, and his experience leading a large department in Orange County brings great value to the Mount,” said college spokesman Matthew Frey. “Mr. Byrne possesses a profession demeanor that will benefit both the security department and the college.”
Byrne will start on the job on Wednesday, February 25.
