TOWN OF WALLKILL – The Route 211 shopping corridor may be getting safer with the Town of Wallkill leaning toward installation of red light cameras.
Two companies have bid on installation of the devices – Bredford and Redflex.
Supervisor Daniel Depew said the devices could be up and running in six months.
“We are probably going to limit the intersections to maybe two intersections that are the worst and most dangerous in the town because our goal is safety,” Depew said.  “It’s not about money; it’s not about anything but safety.”
If the town moves forward on the project, one camera may be placed on Route 211 at Walmart and You-You Restaurant and the other may be placed at the Tower Drive intersection.
The state legislature and governor must approve the red light cameras.
